Helping and Healing

TBI is committed to empowering our community to better the lives of others. This can take the form of participating in various food drives to help the hungry, packing books to be donated to under-resourced communities, preparing meals for needy families, or raising funds for a broader-based charity.

Be a Mensch (BAM)

Our Be a Mensch (BAM) program is the umbrella committee for all social action and for our broader mission of tikkun olam. There are many ways you can participate: by visiting a sick congregant, attending a shiva minyan, volunteering, donating to a charity drive, or becoming a madrich in our Religious School. The program reaches all levels of the TBI community, from our Preschool Mitzvah Makers who donate pajamas for children who have none, to our Religious School students who participate in a monthly program in which they shop, cook, and deliver meals to others in need, to our adult members who coordinate our yearly Mitzvah Day program which brings the entire TBI community together for a day of giving.

Chesed Committee

Performing acts of chesed (lovingkindness) is central to our Jewish values. We would like to fulfill this mitzvah as a community by making it easy and comfortable for anyone to find the help they need. The Chesed Committee is committed to making sure that every member of our community is cared for. However, we also understand that it can be hard to ask for help. Our invitation to you is to let us know when you need assistance. Part of the sacred community we are building is giving help when we're able, but also asking for help when we need it. Our volunteers love to deliver meals and care packages, visit people who are homebound, pick up groceries or medication, provide rides, and much more. We are always looking for new members to join us. If you have a need that the Chesed Committee can fill or if you know of someone who might need some help, please contact the committee by emailing chesed@tbiport.org or contact Rabbi Mishkin or Rabbi Perlman.
