Bar & Bat Mitzvah

Bar & Bat Mitzvah

Hersh's daughterBecoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah at TBI is a magical experience. Under the joyful and steady guidance of Hazzan Blum, our young adults master the skills to take this significant step in their lives.

TBI’s Dvar Torah Mentor Program matches students with lay volunteers to help the students reflect on their parsha and prepare their D’var Torah. Each student will then meet with Rabbi Mishkin to discuss and finalize their D’var Torah.

The Mezuzah Project
All Zayin class students have the opportunity to participate in TBI’s Mezuzah Project to establish a greater understanding of and connection to Conservative Judaism. The Mezuzah Project has four requirements:

  • Participation in a guided tour of The Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City with special workshops for both parents and students.
  • Discussions and learning with Rabbi Mishkin
  • Participation in two or more hours of community service
  • Giving a gift of tzedakah from the student’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah gifts

Students who complete these four requirements of the Mezuzah Project are honored at their Bar or Bat Mitzvah with a special presentation of a mezuzah from the JTS in memory of TBI’s beloved Dr. Harvey Aiges.

Each student also receives a one year membership to Youth Group and the Roslyn JCC as well as gifts from the Rabbi, Hazzan, and Sisterhood.
